How to log-in to OpenID with your Google account

Many blogging sites, and website that allow comments, let you sign-in with OpenID credentials. If you have a Google account (eg. for Google Mail), then you can use the OpenID log-in.

Solution:

  1. Log-in to your Google account first at https://www.google.com/accounts/Login:
    • Then go to My Accounts (top-right) and select “Edit your profile”
    • Scroll down the page to your “Profile URL”, eg.
      • http://www.google.com/profiles/ianmtresman
      • http://www.google.com/profiles/384598849302840454225
  2. When you are on a third-party site, and your OpenID is requested, enter your Profile URL as the OpenID URL. You’ll get logged-in automatically (as long as you are already logged-in to Google)
